The HBCU Oratorical Challenge is a comprehensive national public speaking competition that celebrates the voices and intellects of students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities. This prestigious event provides a rigorous platform for HBCU students to demonstrate their mastery in oratory, persuasive communication, and intellectual leadership.
Participants compete in four distinct categories, each designed to develop different dimensions of effective communication and critical thinking, upholding the tradition of excellence that defines HBCU institutions.
Preliminary, semi-final, and national finals at prestigious HBCU venues.
Standardized rubrics and expert judges across every category and round.
Over $50K in scholarships and national recognition for top orators.
Three progressive rounds identify the nation's most exceptional HBCU orators.
Competitors participate in preliminary rounds at regional locations nationwide, scored by expert panels.
The highest-scoring competitors advance to semi-final competitions with advanced evaluation.
Elite competitors converge at a prestigious HBCU venue. Champions are crowned and honored.
Ensure you meet all requirements before registering for the competition.
Must be a full-time student (undergraduate or graduate) currently enrolled at an accredited HBCU.
Maintain good academic standing with institutional endorsement and verification at time of registration.
All speeches must be original work or properly cited. Plagiarism results in immediate disqualification.
Complete registration by December 15, 2025 with all required documentation. Late registrations are not accepted.
