Extemporaneous Speaking develops your ability to organize thoughts rapidly and deliver compelling arguments with minimal preparation time. Upon drawing your topic, you'll have 30 minutes to research, outline, and prepare before delivering a polished 4-6 minute speech with no more than 5 notecards—a true test of eloquence under pressure.

Eligibility

Must be registered attendees of the HBCU I Am Me Emerging Leaders Conference

Topic Selection

Topic drawn at random from a set of pre-selected subjects related to leadership, community service, or personal development

Time Limit

4–6 minutes required. Penalties apply for speeches shorter or longer than time limits

Preparation

30 minutes preparation time with maximum of 5 notecards allowed during speech

Original Work

Speech must be original work created by participant during the preparation period

Citations

Sources must be cited appropriately within the speech

Phase 1

Topic Draw
