General Participation Rules
All participants must be currently enrolled at a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) and must provide valid student identification at the time of registration.
Participants should choose one category of competition from Prepared Public Speaking, Extemporaneous Public Speaking, Spoken Word Recitation, or Debate and must adhere strictly to the guidelines specific to their chosen category.
Each speech or performance in the Prepared Public Speaking category must be the original work of the participant. Plagiarism in any form will result in immediate disqualification.
Submission and Evaluation Process
Participants are required to submit a written copy of their speech or performance script by the deadline specified on the competition website.
The evaluation process will consist of three phases: qualifying, preliminary and final rounds. A panel of experienced judges will score performances based on criteria such as content originality, delivery, and adherence to time limits.
Feedback will be provided to participants after the completion of the preliminary round, allowing for adjustments before the finals.
